Curriculum Press Ltd is seeking a talented Graphic Designer / Educational Illustrator to work with us on a flexible contract basis, supporting the continued development of our highly regarded A level Factsheet resources.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and detail-oriented designer who enjoys producing clear, accurate and visually engaging educational resources. Working alongside our experienced publishing team, you will help create and maintain a wide range of educational materials used by schools and colleges throughout the UK and internationally.
Contract Opportunity
We are looking to establish a working relationship with a talented designer on a contract basis.
The role offers flexible, ongoing project work, with the volume of work varying depending on our publication programme. Initially, you will work alongside our existing design team, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the relationship develops.
This position would suit someone looking for regular contract work, a flexible role alongside other commitments, or an opportunity to build a longer-term relationship with an established educational publisher.
The Role
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Producing high-quality page layouts for our best-selling Factsheets (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, PE& Sports Sci, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Media Studies) using Adobe InDesign.
- Creating and refining illustrations, diagrams and other visual assets using Adobe Illustrator.
- Preparing artwork for both print and digital publication.
- Working from editorial briefs and implementing amendments supplied by teachers accurately and efficiently.
- Maintaining consistency across a wide range of publications.
- Collaborating with authors, editors and designers to deliver professional educational resources.
Skills & Experience
Applicants should be proficient in:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe InDesign
- Adobe Photoshop
We’re looking for someone who:
- Loves Education!
- Has an excellent eye for detail.
- Produces clean, accurate and consistent layouts.
- Can create or adapt technical illustrations and diagrams.
- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
- Works efficiently whilst maintaining exceptionally high standards.
- Is keen to learn and develop within a specialist publishing environment.
Experience of producing, editing or illustrating educational resources for A Level (or equivalent) science subjects would be highly advantageous. Applicants should be comfortable working with scientific material and implementing amendments from subject specialists.
Location
The role can be undertaken remotely, from our office in Skipton, North Yorkshire, or through a combination of both, depending on the successful applicant’s location and preference.
Recruitment Process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a short practical assessment based on genuine Curriculum Press design work. The exercise is intended to reflect the type of work undertaken in the role and typically takes around 30–45 minutes to complete.
