Overview
Senior Software Engineer, Web. We build websites that handle millions of requests per day, presenting high-quality market data to our members and the investing public. We operate at the tip of the spear, maintaining the primary interface for command and control of Cboe Europe’s three Equities venues, the APA Trade Reporting service and SI Technology service. We care about user experience, code quality, testing, and automation.
Location & Work Model
Cboe Europe operates in a flexible and hybrid work environment, with teams working regularly from our offices in London and Amsterdam. This role follows a four day in-office work model in London.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, extend, and maintain web software functionality, often requiring advanced knowledge and experience.
- Create customer documentation.
- Act as project manager for a feature across multiple parties.
- Develop with strong Python and Linux capabilities.
- Work with JavaScript (ExtJS, React, NextJS), HTML/CSS, and Django; basic UI/UX design skills.
- Design end-to-end solutions covering the full stack of web applications, including front-end visualisations, backend API interactions, and direct SQL database schema and queries.
- Implement automated unit tests and rigorously test changes prior to deployment; resolve systemic issues.
- Contribute to production operations and ensure features are correctly implemented in certification and production environments.
- Provide input into team sprint planning and participate in periodic team meetings; participate in peer code reviews and requirements gathering.
- Write documentation, technical specifications, and requirement materials for data and applications; participate in internal and industry-wide weekend testing as needed.
- Support production systems and applications outside normal hours to ensure performance and high availability.
- Mentor other software engineers; act as SME for one or more systems/technologies.
- Prioritize and manage time across projects in a deadline-driven environment; deliver quality solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Maintain excellent communication with management, stakeholders, and technical colleagues; represent software engineering positively internally and externally.
- Collaborate in environments with Cboe Europe’s flexible hybrid work model and cross-office teams.
- Perform other related duties as required or requested.
Qualifications
- B.Sc Computer Science (preferred), B.Sc Computer/Software Engineering, or demonstrable equivalent knowledge.
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing high-performance, data-driven websites.
- Experience with MVC web frameworks (Django preferred).
- Experience with JavaScript and Python 3.8+.
- Familiarity with modern web standards (HTML5, CSS3).
- Experience with Linux or UNIX-like systems; experience with Apache and ReactJS.
- Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Python unit testing and full-stack web testing.
