Responsibilities

  • Lead teams to deliver key infrastructure-related engineering activities across electrical, mechanical, and civil disciplines.
  • Coordinate planning, supervision, and review of design documentation; chair design reviews, working groups, and meetings with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Own design substantiation: develop, author, assess, and manage the Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation suite.
  • Support through-life safety case: produce schedules and operating procedures for Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) to satisfy long-term safety and design intent.
  • Engage with nuclear safety governance: present substantiations to safety committees and support safety case submissions.
  • Provide technical oversight and assurance: review and approve contractor reports, civil/structural justifications, calculations; contribute to Periodic Reviews of Safety (PRS) and related regulatory compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Solid understanding of high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems.
  • Experience across concept, detailed design, and construction phases on electrical engineering projects, ideally in industrial or maritime environments.
  • Ability to assess electrical plant and equipment for hazard resilience and to author robust technical justifications for design modifications in high-hazard industries.
  • Familiarity with industrial systems such as pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA systems, etc.
  • Experience contributing electrical expertise to multi-discipline projects, ideally within defence and/or maritime sectors.
  • Experience in a high-risk, regulated environment; knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulatory frameworks and application of nuclear-specific codes and standards.
  • Security clearance requirement: candidate must be eligible for UK Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats; sole UK national preferred.

  • Role may require security clearance; sole UK national status may be required depending on assignment.
  • Hybrid working from home and Assystem Office; Glasgow location referenced.
  • Due to role nature, candidate may be required to work as Umbrella contractor or staff; travel to site may be involved.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Predominantly work from home with monthly travel to site for key meetings.
  • Hybrid work arrangement; Glasgow-based role considerations.

Benefits & Other Information

  • Pension scheme: 8% company contribution / 4% personal contribution.

  • Salary: GBP 55,000 – 65,000 per year.
