About the FCA and team
The FCA regulates financial services firms in the UK to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. The Data, Technology and Innovation (DTI) division enables the FCA to be a digital-first, data-led smart regulator by delivering a secure, agile, and cost-effective technology and data ecosystem that drives better decisions, transparency, and operational efficiency. Within DTI, the Digital Delivery Hub digitally transforms the FCA’s regulatory services to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
Role responsibilities
- Lead by example in a working technical role, shaping the direction of the team while developing high-quality digital products using Java and Angular.
- Help deliver innovative features and solutions by working closely with Product Owners and Architects to translate business requirements into impactful outcomes.
- Promote engineering excellence by establishing and promoting best practices, ensuring consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.
- Maintain reliable services, investigate and resolve issues to support business-critical platforms during office hours.
- Mentor and coach junior colleagues to develop team capability and foster a culture of learning and growth.
- Bring initiative and creativity to complex technical challenges, encouraging collaborative problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Develop leadership experience through team leadership, stakeholder engagement and technical decision-making, contributing to wider society while working with a diverse, skilled team.
Skills and qualifications
- Minimum requirements: Practical and current active technical experience in Kotlin/Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, AWS; demonstrable leadership and mentoring experience with strong stakeholder management and effective communication at all levels.
- Ability to establish engineering best practices and implement them across multiple teams.
- Essential: Graduate-level education (or equivalent) in Computing, Computer Science, or related field; adept at using automation to improve development processes and software delivery; solid problem-solving and structured thinking; deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices with a focus on scalable, maintainable systems.
