About the role
Senior Design and Development Engineer responsible for design, development and manufacturing of seat system components, ensuring cost, weight, reliability and performance objectives are met.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior member of the engineering team, championing best practice, developing less experienced colleagues and providing support to the line manager.
- Apply professional expertise and judgment to deliver engineering programmes independently, identifying risks and escalating them timely.
- Support management in improving engineering processes, systems and tools for efficiency and quality.
- Take ownership of the design and development of key modules of the seat system, achieving comfort, reliability, performance, aesthetic, cost and weight targets.
- Work closely with suppliers to develop the design, considering supplier capability and piece cost, and exploiting technical or commercial opportunities.
- Continuously drive the design toward DFM and DFA.
- Produce high quality 3D and 2D design definition using SolidWorks and PDM, with supporting documentation.
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
- Proficient user of CAD and PDM systems with best practice modelling and drawing techniques including GD&T.
- Experience in structural mechanical product development programmes in design, manufacturing and test environments.
- Experience developing products in an aircraft seating environment.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, vacuum forming, castings, forgings, extrusions and machining from solid.

Flexibility
Flexibility to work extended hours when required and willingness to travel to customer locations as needed; eligibility to work in the UK.
