Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for leading and contributing to the design and development of new products, services, and customer-specific engineering solutions. Apply systems engineering methodologies including requirements definition, system architecture, integration, configuration management, and risk management. Support projects through design, verification, production, and commercialization activities as required. Collaborate with Discipline Engineering, Research, and Testing teams to ensure technical excellence. Participate in customer engagement activities, including requirements gathering, technical discussions, and proposal development. Provide technical mentorship and act as a subject matter expert within the discipline. Support project planning and delivery while maintaining technical integrity and alignment with business objectives. Work across the full product lifecycle from concept development through production support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to design and development of products, services, and customer-specific engineering solutions.
  • Apply systems engineering to define requirements, architecture, integration, configuration management, and risk management.
  • Support projects through design, verification, production, and commercialization activities.
  • Collaborate with Discipline Engineering, Research, and Testing teams to ensure technical excellence.
  • Engage with customers for requirements gathering, technical discussions, and proposal development.
  • Provide technical mentorship and act as a subject matter expert within the discipline.
  • Support project planning and delivery while maintaining technical integrity and alignment with business objectives.
  • Contribute across the full product lifecycle from concept to production support.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, including:
    • Mechanics
    • Structural and rotor dynamics
    • Thermodynamics
    • Fluid dynamics and aerodynamics
    • Materials science
    • Structural analysis
  • Proficiency with CAD, CAM, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Experience designing or analyzing mechanical systems such as fluid transport, compression, combustion, or thermal management systems.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and manage technical interfaces.
  • Experience applying systems engineering methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Recognized subject-matter expertise within a relevant mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Experience leading small technical teams or managing engineering work packages.
  • Exposure to bid development and proposal support activities.
  • A proactive, systems-oriented approach to solving engineering challenges.

Location & Commitment

Work is a full-time role based in Nailsea, Bristol, United Kingdom, working 37.5 hours per week. The role involves collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering, research, testing, and customer teams.
