Overview

Street Scene Manager – Doncaster. Full time hours on a temporary basis. Salary £22.99 per hour. Ref: 000B 320C/1.

Key Duties

  • Day to day management of street scene services including street cleansing and grounds maintenance, in line with service standards and SLAs/targets.
  • Manage teams of operational staff, set performance expectations, monitor productivity and address issues.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, health and safety, and council policies.
  • Manage operational budgets.
  • Respond to queries, complaints and service requests.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (councillors, community groups, other council departments).

Core Experience

  • Proven experience in local government street scene operations, including grounds maintenance, street cleansing and related environmental services.
  • Strong understanding of operational service standards, health and safety requirements, and compliance within a public-sector context.

Operational & Resource Management

  • Demonstrated ability to deploy, coordinate and monitor resources (people, vehicles, equipment) to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Experience planning daily/weekly work schedules, responding to service demands, and reallocating resources to meet priorities.

People Management

  • Experience supervising operational teams, including task allocation, performance monitoring, coaching, and supporting staff development.
  • Ability to manage attendance, address performance issues, and maintain positive working relationships across teams.

Budget & Financial Awareness

  • Working knowledge of budget management and monitoring expenditure within operational services.
  • Ability to contribute to forecasting, track spend against budgets and identify opportunities for efficiencies.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for liaising with staff, managers, contractors and the public.
  • Competent in using digital systems for scheduling, reporting, and recording operational data.
  • Commitment to high service standards, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Full driving licence and ability to drive.
  • Working hours: 37 hours per week. Shift patterns may be 5 days Mon-Fri or 4 days (e.g., Mon-Thu or Tue-Fri).
