Overview
This role will be based on the university campus with scope for hybrid working. We are open to flexible working arrangements. You will be involved in negotiating, reviewing and drafting research and innovation contracts. As a member of the Research and Innovation (RIS) Legal Team, you will provide high quality, customer-focused research and innovation support contributing to the strategic objectives and research culture of the University. You will work closely with academics and faculty research and innovation staff to assist in the provision of research and innovation support. You will have responsibility for contract drafting, review and negotiation, providing an expert focal point in contract negotiation with external sponsors and in the review of contract terms and conditions on behalf of the University faculties. You will receive training and support from experienced professionals within the team to develop your skill base and experience in the duties set out below. You will have a law qualification or be qualified by relevant experience and have excellent communication skills, a strong interest in developing effective partnerships with internal colleagues and external organisations and the ability to work on your own initiative. You will additionally have knowledge of intellectual property and contract law.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate research and innovation contracts on behalf of the University faculties.
- Provide expert contract negotiation support with external sponsors and review contract terms and conditions.
- Collaborate with academics and faculty staff to deliver timely, high-quality research and innovation support.
- Receive training and guidance from experienced professionals within the RIS Legal Team to develop relevant skills.
Qualifications
- Qualify as a lawyer or have relevant experience with excellent communication skills.
- Strong interest in developing effective partnerships with internal colleagues and external organisations.
- Ability to work on own initiative and manage competing deadlines.
- Knowledge of intellectual property and contract law.
