Overview
We are seeking a Solutions Architect to lead a diverse portfolio of initiatives across the FTSE Russell Index platform estate, including operational risk remediation, regulatory compliance, resiliency improvements, and platform modernization.
This role requires a hands-on architect who can work effectively within complex, highly interconnected legacy systems, while driving pragmatic, incremental improvements in architecture, scalability, and operational efficiency.
You will balance run and change, ensuring stability of critical platforms while enabling transformation aligned to business and risk priorities.
You will act as a strategic thought partner across Product, Operations, and Engineering:
- Product Partnership: Collaborate closely with Product teams to shape solutions that balance business value, scope, cost, and timelines, while maintaining high standards of quality and technical integrity. Contribute actively to solution design and drive pragmatic decision-making.
- Operations Partnership: Partner with Operations to ensure platforms are scalable, resilient, and operationally efficient, embedding operational excellence, risk awareness, and supportability into all solutions.
- Engineering Partnership: Work with the wider engineering organization to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, delivered efficiently, and aligned to architectural standards. Proactively identify risks, anticipate delivery challenges, and mobilize the right teams and approaches to resolve them.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver scalable, resilient solutions across legacy and modern platforms.
- Lead architecture for risk, regulatory, and resilience-driven initiatives.
- Navigate and simplify complex (“spaghetti”) system landscapes while maintaining stability.
- Define target architectures and transition roadmaps, making pragmatic trade-offs.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader—review designs, support implementation, and build PoCs.
- Drive data-intensive and calculation-heavy system design, including ETL and processing pipelines.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and governance.
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, Risk, and Product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Represent the domain in architecture forums and influence strategic decisions.
- Mentor engineers and uplift engineering and architectural practices.

- DevOps: CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), Terraform, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Orchestration: Airflow, Step Functions, BPM tools
- Observability (desirable): Grafana
- AI (desirable): AI/ML or GenAI adoption for automation and operational efficiency
Experience & Skills

- Experience designing highly resilient, scalable, and secure systems.
- Strong understanding of risk management, controls, and regulatory environments.
- Experience operating in matrix organizations with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with AI/ML or intelligent automation use cases
What We’re Looking For

- Ability to balance ideal architecture with real-world constraints
- Strong risk-aware and control-focused thinking
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to complex problems
- Curiosity and interest in modern technologies, including AI-driven capabilities
