Data Careers is recruiting on behalf of a leading data consultancy delivering a major transformation programme within a UK Central Government organisation.

We’re looking for an experienced Lead Data Governance Consultant to play a key role in delivering an enterprise-wide Data Ownership Model (DOM). This is an opportunity to help shape how data is governed across a complex organisation, embedding clear ownership, improving accountability and enabling better data-driven decision-making.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll collaborate with business stakeholders, digital teams and transformation programmes to design, implement and continuously improve data governance practices across the organisation.

The Role

As a Lead Data Governance Consultant, you will:

  • Support the identification, onboarding and enablement of Data Owner and Data Steward roles.
  • Facilitate conceptual data model workshops with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Embed data ownership principles across the full data lifecycle to improve governance and accountability.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a Data Governance Knowledge Hub, providing a central source of guidance, standards and best practice.
  • Build effective relationships between central data management functions and business teams to encourage consistent governance across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Data Ownership Model and wider governance framework.
  • Support change management and adoption activities to ensure governance practices become embedded across the business.

About You

You’ll be an experienced Data Governance professional who is comfortable operating in large, complex organisations and engaging with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Proven experience delivering Data Governance frameworks or Data Ownership/Data Stewardship models.
  • A strong understanding of the end-to-end data lifecycle.
  • Experience translating governance policies into practical operational delivery.
  • The ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting organisational change and driving adoption of new governance practices.
  • Previous Data Governance experience within a UK Central Government department.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist consultancy delivering a high-profile data transformation programme within Central Government. You’ll play an influential role in shaping enterprise-wide data governance while working alongside experienced professionals on a programme with real organisational impact.
