Overview

Software Development Engineer, Apache Iceberg Table Maintenance for S3 Tables and Glue Table Optimization. Job ID: 10463017 | Amazon Development Centre (London) Limited. We are at the forefront of large-scale data management, contributing to the Apache Iceberg project and ensuring reliable, cost-effective data ingestion with compatibility across analytics engines and optimized query performance through intelligent partitioning and indexing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
  • Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
  • Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Take feature specifications and deliver working code that is maintainable and extendable.
  • Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
  • Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • Experience in professional, non-internship software development
  • Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Experience in development in the last 3 years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
