Overview
These are exciting times for the progressive, rapidly expanding Haematology/Oncology Daycare at UCH. We provide highly specialised care for a wide variety of patient groups within haematology and oncology, between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday. The Haematology/Oncology Daycare team supports nurse-led activities and research and offers opportunities for professional and personal development.

Main duties of the job
The candidate must have existing specialist haemato-oncology experience to meet the requirements of the position at entry (foundation) level with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 or equivalent (30 of which must be haematology/cancer nursing education). They should be competent in chemotherapy administration and patient education. They must possess knowledge and skills in all areas of IV administration (including blood products) and be competent in cannulation and venepuncture. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop competencies within Haemato-Oncology by working in the 4 main areas of the large cancer daycare unit.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Minimum 45 credits at Level 3 or equivalent (30 of which must be haematology/cancer nursing education) or equivalent experience in the specialty
- Teaching qualification or equivalent
- Studying towards a degree or willing to undertake
- Attained a Bachelor or Masters Degree
Experience
- Proven clinical experience at Band 5 (or equivalent) with relevant haemato-oncology experience
- Chemotherapy competent, advanced IV administration skills
- Able to act as a patient educator
Communication & Customer Care
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Able to act as a patient advocate
- Demonstrates evidence of professional development
- Demonstrates evidence of being able to educate others within the specialty
- Experience of facilitating practice and acting as a mentor
