Heating Engineer / Domestic Gas Engineer

Location:Contract: 3-Month Rolling ContractRate: £21.88 per hour (PAYE) – flexible for the right candidate

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Heating Engineer / Domestic Gas Engineer to join a local authority housing maintenance team.

Working across council housing stock and corporate properties, you will be responsible for carrying out predominantly heating installation work, along with servicing, maintenance, repairs and gas safety works. This is a field-based role requiring travel between sites, with a company vehicle provided where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service and repair domestic gas and heating systems.
  • Carry out boiler and central heating installations.
  • Complete responsive repairs and emergency call-outs when required.
  • Undertake planned maintenance, servicing, testing and inspections.
  • Carry out works to void properties ready for new tenants.
  • Complete gas safety certification and job reports using handheld electronic devices.
  • Order materials and identify any follow-on works.
  • Ensure all work complies with current Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain company vehicle, van stock, tools and equipment.
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures, including PPE, RAMS and asbestos awareness requirements.
  • Deliver excellent customer service when working within occupied properties.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Gas Safe Registration.
  • Domestic Gas Qualifications:
    • CCN1
    • CPA1
    • CKR1
    • CENWAT1
    • MET1
    • HTR1
    • Range Cooker
    • Unvented Hot Water
  • Proven experience carrying out domestic gas installations and repairs.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to use handheld devices to complete job documentation.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Time-served apprenticeship.
  • Previous experience working within social housing or local authority maintenance.
  • Additional qualifications such as LPG, Oil, Renewables or Non-Domestic Gas.
  • CAT B Asbestos Awareness Training.

Additional Information

  • Predominantly installation work.
  • 3-month rolling contract with potential for extension.
  • Participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota is required.
  • This is a fully site-based role; home working is not available.
