Overview
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer role based in Kenn requires a professional to oversee manufacturing project delivery across New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, Engineer‑to‑Order (ETO), and distributed operations. This is a full‑time, on‑site position with a salary of £60,000 per annum and benefits including a 7.5% bonus and 8% employer pension contribution. The post‑holder will manage a team of Project Manufacturing Engineers, ensuring solutions are implemented safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include guiding production processes, coordinating technical teams, and maintaining quality standards. The role requires strong leadership, project management experience, and expertise in manufacturing engineering. The permanent contract includes 25 days holiday, life assurance, and free parking.
Location and Compensation
Location: Clevedon, North Somerset. Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum. Bonus: Up to 7.5% annual bonus. Pension: Up to 8% employer contribution. Benefits include life assurance, health plan, wellbeing programme, subsidised canteen, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and free parking.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of Project Manufacturing Engineers.
- Manage the manufacturing project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Own and improve the Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR) process.
- Identify and mitigate manufacturing risks before products enter production.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Project teams to deliver successful manufacturing solutions.
- Drive Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
- Develop team processes, documentation, KPIs, and visual management systems.
- Manage project expenditure and support governance and audit activities.
About You / Qualifications
- Experienced Manufacturing or Project Engineering leader with a track record of delivering engineering projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading manufacturing engineering or project engineering teams.
- Experience delivering NPI, sustaining engineering, ETO, or manufacturing improvement projects.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrialisation, and production readiness.
- Experience managing KPIs, business plans, and engineering resources.
- Hands‑on experience with Lean Manufacturing tools (Kaizen, Standard Work, PFMEA, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, TPM).
- Strong project management and problem‑solving skills.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assemblies.
- Experience using ERP systems and engineering documentation.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach with a passion for developing people and driving continuous improvement.
