  • Support CE marking activities, including conducting EMC Directive risk assessments and ensuring documentation readiness.
  • Perform EMC pre‑compliance testing to de‑risk formal qualification campaigns.
  • Conduct read‑across assessments and gap analyses to determine applicability of existing evidence to new designs or variants.
  • Carry out HERO, HERP, and HERF assessments and support associated trials.
  • Support and participate in EMC and HERO test campaigns, including on‑site technical assistance.
  • Produce high‑quality test reports, verification records, and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to wider electronics engineering tasks as required, supporting cross‑functional design and development activities.
  • Complete all mandatory Thales training and adhere to internal engineering governance processes.

Requirements

  • Degree level qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline).
  • A lower qualification would be acceptable for example HNC/HND should the candidate be able to demonstrate significant demonstrable relevant experience in lieu.
  • Strong understanding of EMC principles, including emissions, immunity, coupling mechanisms, and mitigation techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and apply EMC standards, regulations, and customer specifications (e.g., CE marking, EMC Directive).
  • Competence in writing technical documentation such as requirements, test plans, and verification reports.
  • Hands‑on experience performing EMC pre‑compliance testing using relevant test equipment (spectrum analysers, LISNs, GTEMs, transient generators, etc.).
  • Ability to conduct structured analyses, including read‑across assessments, gap analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Experience supporting external EMC test campaigns and liaising with accredited test houses.
  • Familiarity with HERO, HERP, and HERF principles and the ability to support associated assessments and trials.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to propose practical, evidence‑based design improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • High level of attention to detail and disciplined approach to documentation, configuration control, and verification traceability.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, and deliver high‑quality outputs within project timescales.
  • Knowledge of military or aerospace EMC standards such as DEF STAN, MIL‑STD‑461 or RTCA DO‑160.
  • Understanding of electronic design principles including grounding, shielding and PCB layout impacts on EMC performance.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering practices including requirements management and verification traceability.
  • Ability to provide EMC‑focused input during design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Awareness of wider compliance domains such as Low Voltage Directive, RoHS and safety‑related directives.
  • Competence using modelling or simulation tools to support EMC analysis and design optimisation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external suppliers, partners and accredited test houses during design and certification activities.
  • Understanding of HERO, HERP and HERF considerations within complex defence systems.
  • Experience working in an EMC‑focused engineering role within electronics, defence, aerospace or a similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience producing EMC documentation including requirements, test plans and verification evidence.
  • Experience performing EMC pre‑compliance testing using industry‑standard test equipment.
