Overview
Senior Stress Engineer – Contract | Location: Chorley | Hybrid working available (typically 2 days onsite, 2 days remote). The role is to produce, review and approve calculation and analysis reports to ensure designs are robust, compliant and fit for purpose within a regulated sector.
Responsibilities
- Produce and supervise detailed stress calculations and analysis reports.
- Undertake finite element analysis (FEA) and classical hand calculations.
- Check and approve calculations completed by other engineers.
- Provide technical guidance to designers on manufacturability, material selection and design improvements.
- Liaise with clients and subcontractors to define substantiation requirements.
- Support additional analytical activities including thermal, fluid and operational assessments.
- Develop improved calculation methodologies and engineering practices.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years’ stress analysis experience.
- Strong experience with both classical stress calculations and finite element analysis.
- Knowledge of codes and standards including BS 2573, BS EN 13001 and relevant Structural Eurocodes.
- Experience using ANSYS and Mathcad.
- Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and communicate complex engineering concepts clearly.
Desirable Experience
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards it.
- Knowledge of BS EN 1090.
- Nuclear industry experience.
- Seismic analysis and assessment experience.
- Autodesk Inventor experience.
- Previous experience supervising engineers and reviewing technical work.
