Overview

Apprentice Design Engineer – Fire Suppression in Bristol. This apprenticeship involves working from our office and on customer sites, depending on business needs. Johnson Controls, Unit 1 Westpoint Row, Almondsbury, Bristol, BS32 4QG.

To join this apprenticeship programme we require GCSE English and Maths at grade 5 (C) or above. Please include your certificates in your application alongside your UK Driving licence.

What You’ll Do

  • Join the design department that specialises in creating fire suppression systems for industrial and commercial markets.
  • Work with an experienced design engineer who will guide you and teach the fundamentals of design engineering.
  • Familiarise yourself with AutoCAD, Revit 3D modelling, and other design-specific software to gain direct experience in system design.
  • Create detailed designs and calculations for various fire suppression systems, complying with industry and legislative standards.
  • Visit client locations, collaborate with colleagues to conduct surveys, and develop design plans based on gathered information.
  • Travel to clients on a national basis occasionally; the company will cover travel, accommodation and meals.

Where You’ll Train

Train’d Up; Level 3 Engineering Design Technician. Mix of college learning and hands-on mentoring. College is day release, done remotely.

What You’ll Need

  • GCSEs in English & Maths – Grade 5 (C) or above.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to pass SC clearance.
  • Willingness to travel, work away and stay in hotels when needed.
  • Good teamwork, communication skills, and a love for technology and engineering.
