Detention Custody Officer – Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre (IRC)
Salary: £31,500 plus free Mitie shares, with potential to earn more via overtime. 40 hours per week. Rolling shift pattern including a mix of short and long days and night shifts. This role involves safeguarding residents, delivering custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activity.
Responsibilities
- Care for residents entrusted to the centre, maintaining high standards of safety, security, dignified care, and respect.
- Encourage and support residents to engage in recreational activities, arts, crafts and other opportunities for cultural expression.
- Carry out shift audits, administration, counts and searches of residents, and report accurately and promptly on our systems.
- Ensure safe accommodation and detention of residents to prevent harm.
- Identify and support residents exhibiting deterioration in physical or mental health and wellbeing.

Requirements
- Security clearance and enhanced background checks are required: eligibility as a British citizen, EU citizen with settled status, or someone with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
- Background checks will cover bankruptcy history, CCJs, social media activity and criminal convictions.
- Must have resided in the UK for the past three years with limited significant time abroad.
- Must pass a basic Maths and English test and a mobility test.
- Due to safety-critical nature, employees must not be under the influence of substances that impair performance (including certain medications). THC-based prescriptions are considered due to limited evidence of safety levels.
