Senior Manager, VAT, Digital and Devices, Tax
Job ID: 10467600 | Amazon UK Services Ltd.
Amazon is seeking an Indirect Tax Senior Manager to join the EMEA Digital and Devices Tax team in London, supporting the launch and growth of Amazon Leo’s consumer business across Europe. Leo is Amazon’s low earth orbit satellite network with a mission to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities beyond the reach of existing networks. As Leo launches its consumer offering across EMEA, the successful candidate will lead the indirect tax position for the B2C business, working closely with Business, Engineering, Finance, Legal and external advisors to shape the tax treatment of Leo’s new consumer service from the outset. The role will offer exposure to a broad range of jurisdictions and technical topics, including telecommunications services, bundled offerings of connectivity and hardware, design of consumer billing systems, place of supply for cross-border flows, and the interaction between indirect tax, direct tax, transfer pricing and accounting. There will also be scope for engagement with local tax authorities through enquiries and audits as they arise.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the indirect tax position for the Leo consumer launch across EMEA, from strategy through go-live and into steady-state operation.
- Advise on new features and product changes, including bundling of connectivity with hardware and other services.
- Partner with Leo business teams early in the product development cycle to ensure tax considerations are reflected in business requirements documents.
- Work with Engineering to translate tax requirements into system logic, resolve open points and drive the testing approach to ensure a compliant launch.
- Advise on customer-facing outputs, including invoicing, billing system design, pricing displays and customer communications.
- Manage external advisors: set the scope of advice, independently evaluate the output and reach a sound position.
- Engage with tax authorities across EMEA, including audits, enquiries and informal engagement, in coordination with compliance colleagues.
- Provide technical direction to more junior colleagues supporting the business line.
- The role is primarily advisory, working closely with compliance colleagues on registrations, returns, audits and process improvements.
A day in the life
The role typically involves moving between three types of work: advisory work with Product and Engineering on features under development; ongoing support for the live business including advisor queries and documented positions; and ad-hoc work such as engagement with tax authorities, reviewing legislative changes across EMEA, and supporting wider planning across the digital services and consumer devices portfolio where relevant.
About the team
The team supports Amazon’s digital services and consumer devices businesses across EMEA, advising a portfolio including streaming (Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios, Amazon Music), digital content (Kindle, Audible), connected devices (Alexa, Ring) and satellite broadband. It engages with cross-functional stakeholders including accounting, legal, finance and tax to deliver clear, commercial, robust tax positions from early in product development to launch.
Basic Qualifications
- Professional tax, accounting or legal qualification (e.g., CA, ACA, CTA, CIOT or similar).
- Knowledge of VAT in EU/UK.
- Strong understanding of tax compliance principles, regulations, and reporting requirements across jurisdictions.
- Experience in taxation in a corporate environment, public accounting firm or major law firm.
- Experience managing other employees and leading international tax teams.

- Experience analyzing statutes, regulations, and case law to extract data and make recommendations.
- Experience in tax advisory (excluding compliance) with an EMEA focus.
- Experience in international indirect tax planning and related country tax laws.
- Experience in advisory roles in large accounting/consultancy, law firm, tax authority or in-house.
- Experience in a compliance-focused tax role in a multinational organization.
- Experience with exposure to multinational taxpayers / cross-border transactions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and coaching junior staff.
- Experience with accounting concepts and tax regulations, laws and standards.
- Experience with tax modeling in Excel-based models or similar tools.
