Overview

Our Principal Data Engineers are responsible for leading and delivering strategically significant, complex client engagements across our portfolio of clients. They bring deep understanding of client needs, strong discipline, subject matter expertise, leadership, and a clear vision of lasting, effective change in public sector environments. They lead the Data Engineering aspects of client engagements and oversee broader delivery within the account when appropriate. They coach and develop team members, provide detailed performance feedback, monitor overall delivery to achieve high client satisfaction, and engage with clients to understand challenges and build lasting trusted-advisor relationships. They oversee multiple concurrent client deliveries to drive quality and share best practices across engagements and industries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the data engineering elements of engagements and contribute to overall delivery within the account when appropriate.
  • Coach and develop team members, provide performance feedback, and monitor delivery to achieve client satisfaction.
  • Engage with clients to understand challenges and build trusted-advisor relationships.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent client deliveries to ensure quality and share best practices across engagements and industries.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand needs, provide solution advice as a trusted advisor, and shape solutions leveraging Made Tech’s capabilities.
  • Assess project performance, quality-assure deliverables, and ensure client satisfaction as part of billable delivery teams.
  • Act as Technical Authority for the Data & AI capability to ensure alignment with internal and industry best practices.
  • Capture engagement experience to improve standards and contribute to Made Tech knowledge.
  • Participate in business development activities, including bids and pre-sales within the account, industry, and practice; coach team members on their contributions and oversee relevant technical aspects of proposals.
  • Undertake people management responsibilities, including performance reviews and professional development of engagement and practice colleagues.
  • Represent Made Tech as a thought leader within client engagements, the wider public sector, and at industry events.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience delivering complex engagements that span multiple capabilities for user-facing digital and data services in the public sector.
  • Ability to innovate and apply learnings from the commercial sector, other countries, and advances in technology to UK Public Sector challenges.
  • Experience building trusted-advisor relationships with senior client stakeholders in the public sector.
  • Leadership experience in building and leading high-performing consulting teams and leveraging engagements to deliver value.
  • Experience in bids and solution shaping to win new business and grow the practice.
  • Experience managing third-party partnerships and suppliers to provide a seamless delivery team.
  • Data Engineering expertise, including shaping data strategy, quality, ethics, and governance; ability to shape data strategy and roadmaps.
  • Broad technical knowledge across data architectures (data warehouses, data lakes, data lake houses, data mesh) and DataOps/MLOps practices.
  • Working knowledge of data engineering technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks, Hadoop) and programming languages (Python, Scala, R, SQL); familiarity with databases and cloud data stores (SQL/NoSQL) and cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure).
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and modern software delivery practices.
  • Evidence of self-development and ongoing learning.
  • Eligibility for SC (Security Check) clearance: 5 years of continuous UK residency. If eligibility is not met during interview, the application will not progress.
