Overview
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Secretary to support a Consultant and their medical team within the Community Mental Health Team. The closing date is 28 July 2026.
Responsibilities
- Provide a full confidential administrative and secretarial service to a Consultant and their medical team.
- Work as part of the secretarial team to ensure deadlines are met and adequate cover is provided.
- Project a professional image through excellent customer care in all interactions.
- Be the first point of contact for the Consultant and Medical Team; manage enquiries from patients, carers and professionals; offer non-clinical advice; identify when urgent action may be required.
- Respond sensitively to patients, showing empathy; maintain tact and diplomacy when dealing with relatives and carers.
- Plan and organise clinics to meet fluctuations in capacity and demand (community-based appointments).
- Adopt a flexible approach to ensure Consultant objectives are completed efficiently within timescales.
- Coordinate meetings to support multi-agency working and ensure documentation/records are available in advance of clinics.
Qualifications and experience
- City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Medical Secretaries or OCR/RSA Level 3 or equivalent.
- GCSE level grade C or equivalent; good literacy and numeracy skills.
- NVQ Level 3 in administration or equivalent.
- Proven medical secretarial experience; previous NHS experience; experience of unsupervised administrative work in a busy office; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; submission to the DBS is required.
