MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (BS & ASCP OR HEW CERT.)

Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests and quality control procedures in assigned areas. Departmentalized technicians will have increased technical responsibility in areas of specialization. Ensure reporting of abnormal results to physicians and appropriate floors.
- Organize and assign work to technicians within the department according to priorities and maintain general efficiency.
- Assess and report acceptable results, review daily QC results, and troubleshoot procedures that are out of control.
- Maintain routine and periodic maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; troubleshoot malfunctions and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain inventory in assigned areas and report needs to coordinators.
- Review Standard Operating Procedure Manuals periodically; write procedures for new tests and edit changes as they are implemented.
- Test and develop new procedures and products with appropriate statistical evaluation; present findings to the supervisor for evaluation.
- Train and evaluate students and new employees.
- Operate computers for patient data, maintenance, and quality control routines.
- Perform phlebotomies as requested and enter results into the computer.
- Maintain laboratory work areas in a clean and safe manner.
- Attend laboratory meetings and participate in in-service education meetings and seminars as requested.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Required
- B.S. in a science-related field.
- Able to utilize analyzers and computers.
- Six months of experience in a laboratory environment.
Registration/Certification
- ASCP, HEW, NCA (written).
Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 10 lbs. There may be occasional need for climbing stairs and lifting in excess of 50–100 lbs., as well as sitting, constant hearing and vision use, frequent use of smell and touch, frequent keyboard and telephone use, and sustained concentration and problem solving.
Pay Range
$31.00 – $54.80
Note: The pay range listed is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time, and is governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
