Job Summary

You will be a key member of the pharmacy trials team and work closely with our research teams based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Heartlands Hospital and our external research partners helping set up and deliver trials to our patients. You will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day delivery of the pharmacy trials service to ensure the safe and timely dispensing of clinical trial medication in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Dispensary and Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. Although desirable, there is no requirement to have experience working within clinical trials or in an aseptic unit as full training will be provided; you must have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be self‑motivated.

You Will Have

  • A nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • An accredited accuracy checking qualification, be working towards this qualification or be willing to work towards this.
  • A flexible approach and good time management skills.
  • Good IT and communication skills.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

  • Perform a variety of general pharmacy duties under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician in all aspects of clinical trials medicine management including ordering, receipting, deliveries, dispensing and temperature monitoring of clinical trial medicines.
  • Maintain financial records, complete drug accountability activities and network with research teams across the trust and with external representatives.
  • Deal with enquiries in an efficient, polite and courteous manner, providing a caring and helpful service to other members of staff, patients, and the general public.
  • Lead in providing excellent customer service and act as a role model to other members of the dispensary team.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy.
  • Service Skills and Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
  • Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.
  • Registered as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Accredited Checking Technician West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience working in a hospital setting.
  • Practical experience of aseptic work.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues.
  • Experience working within a pharmacy team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
  • Ability to handle safely and competently pharmaceutical equipment and medicines used in the dispensing process.
  • Evidence of continual professional development (CPD).
  • Medication counselling experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within clinical trials.
  • Provision of specialist technical advice to others regarding manufacturing methods.
  • Contribution to technical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants.
  • Training experience.Supervisory experience.
  • Audit experience.

Additional Criteria

  • Evidence of Dispensing Accuracy Assessment successfully completed.
  • Evidence of registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Commitment to abide by the Trust Vision and Values.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
  • Certificate of Sponsorship available for skilled worker sponsorship.
  • UK Professional Registration required.

Other Requirements

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service. Skilled worker applicants must provide a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
