Job Description:

The successful candidate will work for the PIVOT project, ensuring the delivery of project goals defined in an Innovate UK/APC project.

  • Job type: Full‑time (fixed term)
  • Salary: Grade R1 – Research Assistant £37,118‑£39,114 inclusive of London Weighting (potential to progress to £40,202); Research Fellow £41,292‑£48,557 inclusive of London Weighting (potential to progress to £52,761).
  • Hours: Full‑time

Responsibilities

  • Understand the performance of aluminium alloys through manufacturing, microstructure analysis, and tensile testing.
  • Perform microstructural characterisation of aluminium alloys.
  • Model and simulate aluminium alloys for strengthening.
  • Support research activities to deliver new state‑of‑the‑art automotive solutions.
  • Prepare project progress reports and the final report.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at internal seminars, project progress meetings, and national and international conferences.
  • Interact with other researchers in BCAST and research engineers from industry.

Qualifications

  • PhD in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline. For a Research Assistant, VIVA must be finished before interviewing and final submission must be completed before starting the job.
  • Research experience in solidification of metallic materials.
  • Deep working knowledge of microstructure and mechanical properties of metallic materials.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Team player.
