Social Worker – Neurodivergent Adults

Staffordshire County Council seeks a Social Worker to support the Adult Social Care Service in delivering statutory care and support to adults with care needs, focusing on Neurodivergent adults. The role is central to the Assessment and Care Management teams within the Health and Care Directorate.

Location: Hybrid role with 2‑3 office days per week; dual base in Stafford and Burton.

Responsibilities

  • Complete strengths‑based assessments and reviews, meeting all statutory functions including the provisions of the Care Act (2014) and S42 safeguarding enquiries.
  • Create detailed support plans using local community resources for Neurodivergent citizens.
  • Apply the Mental Capacity Act (2005) including capacity assessments, Court of Protection applications, and related court‑directed work.
  • Record all case management activities and key decisions on the case recording system.
  • Analyse information to understand risks and develop strategies to explain, avoid or manage risk appropriately.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes, including peer and reflective supervision, and use research findings and service principles to inform practice.
  • Co‑produce support plans with clients to maximise their independence.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities such as Practice Educator or Best Interest Assessor roles.

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Social Worker with experience in Adult Social Care and a professional registration with Social Work England.
  • Proven track record of person‑centred, asset‑focused practice and high professional standards.
  • Sound knowledge of current legislation and its application to practice in a social care setting.
  • Applied knowledge of the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act, and experience of undertaking safeguarding enquiries.
  • Experience working in complex situations using professional judgement and a range of interventions.
  • Clear, jargon‑free communication style, courteous, calm, and professional.
