Commercial Assistant – Central Cornwall

Permanent, Full‑Time

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 + Career Progression

Overview

The role involves exposure to the full commercial function and working closely with the Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyors, Estimators and Buyers in the procurement, estimating and quantity surveying areas. It is an ideal path for someone aspiring to develop into a Quantity Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the commercial team with the delivery of multiple new build housing developments
  • Support procurement activities, obtaining quotations and placing purchase orders
  • Assist with material scheduling and supplier liaison
  • Provide support to the Quantity Surveyors with valuations, variations and cost reporting
  • Assist the Estimating team with tender enquiries, take‑offs and pricing exercises
  • Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate commercial records using COINS (preferred)
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, spreadsheets and reports
  • Liaise with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure projects remain on programme
  • Support cost tracking and commercial reporting
  • Provide general administrative support across the commercial department

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience within a Commercial Assistant, Commercial Administrator, Buying, Estimating or Quantity Surveying support role
  • Experience within the construction or housebuilding industry
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Good numerical ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work as part of a team
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • COINS experience is desirable
