Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL) is a wholly ownedsubsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, providingEstates and Facilities services across Trust sites.

We are seeking a motivated and reliable SemiSkilled Maintenance Assistant to join theEstates team at Darlington Memorial Hospital. This role supports skilled craftstaff in maintaining critical hospital plant, equipment and services, helpingto ensure a safe, compliant and wellmaintained environment for patients, staff andvisitors. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary Estates team withopportunities to develop practical skills within a healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support Estates craft staff indelivering planned preventative and reactive maintenance across hospitalbuildings and services. The role involves carrying out semiskilledmaintenance tasks, assisting with inspections and testing, completing basicrepairs, and undertaking labouring and cleaning duties as required.

You will work independently on appropriate tasks, respond tomaintenance requests via the electronic helpdesk system, accurately completejob records, and participate in shift and oncall rotas. Flexibility, goodcommunication skills and a strong commitment to health and safety areessential, particularly when working in sensitive patient environments.

Job responsibilities

The SemiSkilled Maintenance Assistant willassist and support Estates craft personnel in maintaining plant, equipment andassociated services across Darlington Memorial Hospital and other SCLmaintainedproperties. Duties include supporting planned preventative maintenance andbreakdown repairs, assisting with inspections and testing, and undertaking workof a semiskilled nature without direct supervision whenappropriate.

The role requires active participation in the Estates shiftand oncallrota systems, ensuring essential services are maintained outside of normalworking hours. The post holder will use electronic devices to receive andcomplete work instructions, record time and materials used, and completereports and test documentation when required.

You will work in a variety of hospitalenvironments, including plant rooms and occupied clinical areas, requiringdiscretion, professionalism and sensitivity. Occasional overtime may berequired, including emergency response activities such as snow clearing andgritting. Compliance with health and safety legislation, Trust policies and SCLprocedures is essential at all times.

Special Requirements

  • Eligible to live and work in the UK
  • Willingness to participate in shift and oncall rotas
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, adverse environments and inclement weather
  • Flexibility to undertake overtime and emergency response duties

Statutory Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence

Experience

  • Experience using mechanical and hand tools
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment

  • Ability to organise own workload

Qualifications

  • Good general level of education

  • Engineering or buildingbased qualifications or competencies
