We are currently seeking an Apprentice Operative to join our Midlands Team at Washwood Heath site in Birmingham. The Washwood Heath Site supports manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure activities, serving customers across the region. Operatives are the heartbeat of our business, helping to manufacture essential materials that shape roads, buildings, and infrastructure. As an Apprentice Operative, you’ll work with purpose, pride, and precision while learning the ropes and building a career from the ground up. Applicants must be aged 18 or over. The role involves a rotating shift schedule, including day and night shifts.
What you’ll be doing
- Operate production equipment such as mobile and fixed plant systems
- Carry out basic maintenance and inspections to keep equipment running smoothly
- Learn to lead ready‑mix operations and ensure the safety of all site personnel and visitors
- Assist with toolbox talks and safety briefings
- Manage daily production tasks such as stock ordering, inspections, and defect reporting
- Help manufacture high‑quality material in line with technical standards
- Contribute to operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support a safe working environment and uphold high safety standards
- Be a role model for health and safety and look out for yourself and your team
- Take pride in your work and be determined to succeed
- Work both inside and outside the site, sometimes in dusty or confined environments, with full protective clothing provided
Your Development

Qualification: Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship. The course is delivered in block release; you will travel to the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield with accommodation and travel expenses covered.
What we’re looking for
Essential
- GCSEs Maths and English (or equivalent) at pass grade; support available to gain required qualifications as part of the apprenticeship
- Ability to travel to college
- Aged 18 or over to meet shift pattern requirements
- Availability for a rotating shift schedule, including day and night shifts

- Strong commitment to working safely and responsibly
- True team player with great communication skills and a positive attitude
