Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm with a 1‑hour lunch break each day between 12:00 and 2:00pm. 35 hours per week.

Duration: 1 year 6 months.

Wage: £14,560 for the first year, with potential increases thereafter.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you’ll do at work

As a Business Administration Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth day‑to‑day running of the office. Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing emails and correspondence
  • Data entry and maintaining accurate records
  • Organising and storing files and documents
  • Scheduling meetings and diary management
  • Preparing documents, reports, and communications
  • Assisting with customer enquiries and stakeholder communication

You will receive structured training, ongoing support, and mentorship throughout the apprenticeship, helping you grow in confidence and capability.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

  • Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation such as MS Office, capable of creating proposals, performing financial processes, recording and analysing data, and updating databases.
  • Produces accurate records and documents including emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals, making recommendations for improvements and presenting solutions to management.
  • Exercises proactivity and good judgement, making effective decisions based on sound reasoning and managing challenges maturely.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships within the team and across the organisation, demonstrating influence and the ability to challenge appropriately.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills face‑to‑face, on the telephone, in writing or on digital platforms, using the most appropriate channels.
  • Completes tasks to a high standard, reviewing processes independently and suggesting improvements, sharing best practices, and handling complex complaints.
  • Takes responsibility for initiating and completing tasks, managing priorities and time to meet deadlines, and ensuring positive expectations for colleagues.
  • Uses project management principles and tools to scope, plan, monitor and report, organising resources and leading projects when required.
  • Works towards the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard and City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for the Business Administrator.
  • Monthly classes at Colchester Institute (Colchester Campus).

Requirements

GCSE in maths and English (grade A*-C/9-4).
