Associate Architect

Company: Konker
Apply for the Associate Architect
Location: Birmingham
Job Description:

Associate – Birmingham | £55,000-£60,000

An established Birmingham architecture practice is hiring an Associate Architect to step into a leading role on live projects as the current Directors gradually pass more day-to-day delivery down the studio. Senior-level ownership, direct client relationships, and a defined route into the next generation of practice leadership.

The work is technically demanding across multiple sectors, including large-scale industrial, energy, residential, and commercial. This is a practical, delivery-focused practice, and buildability is at the heart of how the studio operates.

You’ll be running projects from concept through to on-site, holding the client relationships that come with them, and mentoring the wider team on both the design and technical side.

The Associate Architect role, day to day:

  • Leading live projects from feasibility through to delivery on site, with full ownership of the technical and delivery stages.
  • Holding senior client relationships, with commercial and contractual responsibility.
  • Contributing to fee proposals, business development, and the practice’s wider growth.
  • Mentoring project architects, technologists and junior team members.
  • Working closely with Directors as they gradually step back from day-to-day project delivery.

What we’re looking for in this Associate Architect:

  • ARB registered, RIBA Part 3 qualified.
  • Several years of post-qualification experience, with a proven track record leading substantial UK projects.
  • Strong technical background, ideally with sector experience in industrial, energy, residential or commercial work.
  • Confident client-facing communicator, comfortable with commercial and contractual conversations.
  • Strong Revit skills and practical, buildability-focused instincts.
  • Genuine interest in stepping into a leadership role and helping steer the direction of the practice.

Why this Associate role in Birmingham is worth a look:

  • A defined path into the leadership layer of an established practice.
  • Direct exposure to the Directors during the transition, with the chance to shape how the practice evolves.
  • A workload that reaches the ground, with sector variety across some genuinely interesting technical briefs.
  • The commercial and client-facing responsibility that comes with a senior role.
  • Birmingham as a base, with easy reach from across the Midlands.
