Our Organisation
Directors UK is the professional association of UK screen directors. It is a membership organisation representing the creative, economic and contractual interests of over 8,500 members – the majority of working TV and film directors in the UK. Directors UK negotiates rights deals and collects and distributes royalties to its members. It also campaigns and lobbies on its members’ behalf and provides a range of services including legal advice, events and career development. Directors UK works closely with fellow organisations around the world to represent directors’ rights and concerns, promotes excellence in the craft of direction and champions change to the current landscape to create an equal opportunity industry for all.
Purpose of the role
Working across our Membership department, this role coordinates and supports the delivery and organisation of our events and careers and skills activity for our Directors UK members. The focus of the role is split between the Events team and the Careers & Skills Development team with the main focus (70-80%) on events.
Reporting to: Career Development and Skills Manager
Key responsibilities
- Working closely with the Events Manager to organise and deliver events for our members including webinars, panels discussions, screenings and Q&A/In Conversation events.
- Working closely with our Career Development and Skills Manager to coordinate programmes and priorities and be responsible for the coordination of Career Development and Skills (CDS) activity, administration, venue and catering booking/management.
- Coordination of applications from members for CDS initiatives including our mentoring programme Inspire.
- Coordinating and delivering webinars across CDS and Events programmes including running the webinar technology (Zoom).
- Event management and delivery on the day, liaising with venue, AV, speakers, partners and managing attendees, at select screenings and other events.
- Working with the Membership Administrator to manage guestlists and event attendance prior to event.
- Participation management for CDS sessions including welcoming, providing drinks etc, networking and introducing participants to one another.
- Answering and directing general queries from the Training and Events inboxes and actioning when appropriate.
- Collaborate in the planning process, keeping up with industry news and contributing ideas in meetings (in conjunction with the Events and CDS Managers).
- Coordinate invoices and expenses for Events and CDS activity.
The post holder will be required to undertake additional tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the role.
Personal specification
Essential:
- Highly organized, process-driven with excellent time and logistical skills, ability to prioritise a busy workload with multiple delivery deadlines.
- Excellent AV and IT skills including experience of delivering webinars via Zoom.
- Experience of events logistics, administration, and delivery.
- Excellent customer service, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently with initiative, as well as part of a small collaborative team.
- A positive and member-driven approach.
- Discrete, with an awareness of handling confidential data, and understanding of GDPR.
- Understanding of the creative industries, specifically film and television.
Desirable:
- Experience of delivering screening events.
- Experience of working in a membership organisation, and the dynamic of delivering member services and programmes.
Flexibility:
- To be able to work effectively in a changing environment.
- The post holder will be required to travel throughout the UK.
- To be able to work varying hours including regular evening and occasional weekend work.
Key Terms of Employment
Reporting to: Career Development and Skills Manager
Hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm
Work Days: Monday to Friday including evening events and occasional weekends (with Time off in lieu)
Location: This role may be split between working at our Directors UK office at 33 Great Sutton Street, London, EC1V 0DX and working remotely, plus some UK travel for events.
Contract: 12M FTC
Salary: £32,000 per annum
Holidays: 25 days per year plus all public and bank holidays (pro rata)
