ROLE OVERVIEW
n
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls & Automation Engineer to join ourn growing engineering team. The successful candidate will play an active role in the development ofn new automated machines, working alongside our mechanical and electrical design teams fromn concept through to production-ready systems. They will be responsible for designing, developing,n and commissioning PLC-based control systems and HMI interfaces, and will provide ongoing fieldn support including calibration visits, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting at customer sites. This isn a technically demanding role requiring broad expertise across motion control, variable frequencyn drives, and software development, combined with a practical hands-on approach to factoryn acceptance testing and customer commissioning.n KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
n
Design, develop, and commission PLC programs for the control of industrial automationn machinery.n Collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineering teams in the development of newn automated machines, from concept through to production-ready control systems.n Create and implement graphical HMI programs to complement and support PLC-basedn control systems.n Select, configure, program and commission servo motor and drive systems for precisionn motion control applications.n Select, configure, program and commission stepper motor and drive systems as appropriaten to application requirements.n Program and configure Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for the control of AC inductionn motors.
n
Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) at our facility, working alongside then production and engineering teams.n Travel to customer sites to carry out equipment start-up, commissioning, andn operator/maintenance training.n Produce clear and accurate technical documentation, including control narratives, wiringn schedules, operator manuals and commissioning records.n Provide on-site fault diagnosis and technical troubleshooting support at customer sites whenn required.n Carry out calibration checks on customer premises to ensure continued accurate and reliablen operation of installed systems.n Work collaboratively with the wider engineering teams throughout the full project lifecycle.n Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes and documentationn standards.n Participate in occasional overseas commissioning trips as project requirements demand.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
n
Experience & Qualificationsn Minimum 5 years of hands-on, industry-based experience writing PLC programs for then automation and control of industrial machinery. Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens.n Demonstrable experience developing HMI graphical interface programs in an industrialn environment.n Strong knowledge of motion control systems — including the selection, programming, andn commissioning of servo motors and drives.n Proven ability to programme and configure Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for inductionn motor applications.n Experience of carrying out or supporting factory acceptance testing of automated machinery.n Demonstrable experience of equipment commissioning and/or customer training on site.n Proven ability to contribute to the development of new automated machines, workingn collaboratively across engineering disciplines from initial specification through to productionn sign-off.n Experience of visiting customer sites to carry out start-up, performance verification, and/orn fault diagnosis.

DESIRABLE SKILLS (NOT ESSENTIAL)
n
Experience working across multiple PLC platforms and/or HMI manufacturers.n Practical experience with stepper motors and stepper drive systems.n Knowledge of industrial communications protocols (e.g. Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP,n Modbus).n Ability to design electrical schematics and control panel layouts using dedicated electricaln CAD software.n Familiarity with one or more of the following electrical design packages: EPLAN, AutoCADn Electrical, or Schneider Electric SEE Electrical.n Familiarity with machine safety standards and functional safety (e.g. EN ISO 13849, IECn 62061).

TRAVEL & SITE WORK
n
This role is primarily office based. However, the successful candidate must be willing and able ton travel as part of their duties. Site work is expected to average between two and five days pern month, and will primarily involve:n Factory acceptance testing at our own facility.n Equipment start-up, commissioning and customer operator/maintenance training —n predominantly at customer sites local to our premises, typically not requiring overnight stays.n Scheduled calibration visits and performance verification checks at customer sites.n Reactive troubleshooting and fault diagnosis at customer sites when required. xohmjlan Occasional domestic and international travel for commissioning activities at customer sitesn further afield.
