Quantity Surveyor – Civils (Remote)

Freelance | Up to £400 per day outside IR35 | Long term

About the Company

Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and groundwork projects across the UK. Operating across multiple sectors, they have built a strong reputation for quality delivery and effective commercial management. With a growing workload and ongoing framework agreements, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can work effectively in a remote capacity.

The Role

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial function across a range of civils projects. This role will predominantly be remote, so it will suit an individual who is highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing workloads independently while meeting strict timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the pricing and agreement of compensation events
  • Support the preparation of commercial reports and cost forecasts
  • Manage and administer subcontract packages of work
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract requirements
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation
  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Support the wider commercial team in delivering project objectives on time and within budget

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contract forms (essential)
  • Experience in placing and managing subcontract packages
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a remote environment
  • Experience supporting civils, infrastructure, or groundwork projects
  • Strong understanding of commercial processes and reporting

Skills & Attributes

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of cost control, valuations, and variations
  • Experience assisting with compensation events and reporting
  • Solid understanding of commercial procedures within civils projects

People Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach
