Job Description:

This is a 2PA post, in palliative medicine working in hospital and community settings to cover a one‑year period of maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide specialist palliative care medical care to people in our hospitals and community footprint.
  2. Take a leadership role in the Palliative and End of Life Care Quality Improvement Program building on established work with acute and community specialities to deliver and further improve specialist palliative and end of life care patient and carer experience across all disease pathways.
  3. Support as needed selected cancer & non‑cancer MDTs & board rounds.
  4. Be supported to develop subspecialist interests if aligned to the service strategy.
  5. Deliver and design education and training as needed.

Job responsibilities

The innovative Connected Palliative care service which provides specialist palliative care, 24/7 rapid response home care for dying patients and a dedicated central coordination hub which manages our end‑of‑life care register. Specialist in‑patient hospice care is sub‑contracted to two local partner hospices.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Entry on Specialist Register in Palliative Medicine or possession of a CCT in Palliative Medicine or substantial experience in a senior medical post in Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of CCT.
  • MRCP or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Higher Degree

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of complex palliative care patients.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients.

Desirable

  • Special interest that complements the existing consultants

Clinical Effectiveness

Essential

  • Experience of leading successful quality improvement activity.
  • Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision‑making.
