The Cardiac Investigations Department based at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join a supportive, patient‑centred team to provide a quality service for invasive and non‑invasive cardiology investigation procedures. The successful candidate will independently perform a range of basic cardiology investigations and undertake structured, work‑based training across a broad spectrum of invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic techniques. Responsibilities include conducting a range of non‑invasive cardiac investigations; analysing and reporting 24‑hour to 14‑day Holter recordings, exercise tolerance ECG testing, head‑up tilt testing, and monitoring support for Stress Echocardiography. With learning and supervision, perform Pacemaker checks. Under supervision until proficient, you will provide physiology support in the cardiac catheter laboratories (during RHC and LHC) and during pacemaker insertions. The role is full‑time (37.5 hours per week), working 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. The post holder will primarily be based within the Cardiac department at Peterborough City Hospital site, with flexibility to work across other NWAFT Hospital sites as required.

Main duties of the job

  • To perform a range of the following procedures in accordance with established policies and professional codes of practice ensuring high standards and optimal results:
    • Supporting team in diagnostic angiography lab
    • Supporting team in PPM implant and follow up
    • 12 lead ECG interpretation
    • Exercise tolerance testing
    • Responsible for leading the test ensuring test appropriateness and safety.
    • Ambulatory ECG monitoring
    • Ambulatory BP monitoring
    • Ambulatory ECG analysis
    • 24 hour and cardiac event recorder

Education and Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology or equivalent (e.g. HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement)
  • Registered or working towards registration with RCCP/HCPC

Experience

  • Proficient in specialist non‑invasive clinical technical cardiac investigations
  • Working towards becoming proficient in invasive cardiology including cardiac catheterisation and pacing
  • Basic IT skills

Knowledge

  • Ability to work competently and perform, report and supervise Physiologist‑led Exercise ECG treadmill tests, Ambulatory and resting ECG’s
  • Hold a current ILS certificate
  • Good degree of knowledge/clinical acumen in related medical fields
  • Evidence of continuing professional development across a range of specialist clinical techniques and fields

  • Sound interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Able to work under pressure in complex and emergency situations
  • Ability to frequently perform at a high level of concentration
