NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde – Healthcare Support Worker

We are looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join our dedicated team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care and support within a busy clinical environment, helping to deliver safe, effective and person‑centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality personal care and support to patients with dignity, compassion and respect.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including feeding, bathing and mobility needs.
  • Support Registered Nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in delivering patient care.
  • Observe and report changes in patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to effective communication within the clinical team.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties, stock control and the safe use of equipment within the ward environment.
  • Follow all NHSGGC policies, procedures and infection prevention measures to ensure patient and staff safety.

Qualifications & Experience

  • SVQ II qualification in a relevant area or equivalent experience gained through training and practice.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy healthcare environment while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Good observation skills with the ability to recognise and report changes in a patient’s condition.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, dignity, respect and person‑centred care principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Caring and compassionate approach; experience in a caring role or environment is advantageous.

Contract & Working Pattern

Full‑time 36 hours or part‑time 33.18 hours available on a permanent contract. Shift pattern: rotational, fully flexible. The salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.
