Job Description:

IntraHealth is recruiting a Pharmacy Dispenser to join our pharmacy at Chilton. Candidates must have their own transport, as travel between pharmacies may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient and safe pharmaceutical service under the direction of the pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Assist in the delivery of all Essential, Advanced and Enhanced services within the community pharmacy, and local services commissioned by the PCT or successor organisations.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of all items and place, receive, and store orders.
  • Label and assemble prescription items, endorse prescriptions accurately, and ensure clean and tidy working environment.
  • Collect prescriptions and, when required, deliver dispensed items.
  • Follow national and local guidance, including Medicines, Ethics in Practice (MEP) and current additions.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and undertake the sale or supply of medicines and goods, including over‑the‑counter sales.
  • Comply with legal and NHS requirements, including record keeping and the Medicines Act.
  • Provide advice and support to patients, relatives and carers, and communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Build good relationships with practices, prescribers and other healthcare professionals to facilitate patient care.
  • Support and help develop colleagues and other members of the community pharmacy team.
  • Work flexibly according to team and clinical needs.
  • Co‑operate with management in Health & Safety, discharging responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Maintain security of personnel, stock, cash and premises at all times.
  • Report all adverse and significant events in accordance with agreed procedures and participate in improvement activities.
  • Maintain appropriate records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Qualifications and Skills

  • NAVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or working towards it).
  • Previous experience working in a community pharmacy.
  • Previous health‑care or customer‑facing experience.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (minimum 5 GCSEs including English and Maths).
  • Current driving licence and access to a car.
  • Knowledge of PMR systems and basic IT literacy (e‑mail, internet and word processing).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to plan own workload with priorities and objectives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Data Protection Act, patient confidentiality, clinical and information governance and Caldicott requirements.
  • Computer literacy skills and dispensing accuracy.
  • Teamwork and ability to work independently.

Learning and Development

  • Complete accredited courses enabling all aspects of NHS pharmacy contract, including Essential, Additional and Enhanced services and locally commissioned services.
  • Complete in‑house training course and annual training review, including peer review.
