Daily Duties

  • Support primary and secondary‑aged students with Autism throughout the school day
  • Deliver one‑to‑one and small group support tailored to individual learning plans
  • Support pupils with non‑verbal communication using appropriate communication strategies, including visual supports and alternative communication methods
  • Assist with classroom activities to promote engagement, independence and learning
  • Encourage positive behaviour through consistent and supportive approaches
  • Support pupils with personal, social and emotional development
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to implement individual support plans
  • Monitor, record and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Support students during break times, educational activities and school‑based interventions where required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or a similar role supporting children or adults with additional needs
  • Essential knowledge and practical experience supporting individuals with Autism
  • Essential experience supporting individuals who use non‑verbal communication and alternative communication strategies
  • A patient, resilient and compassionate approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues and families
  • Confidence working with both primary and secondary‑aged students
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn through specialist training
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with special educational needs

Safeguarding Requirements

This role involves regular, direct and unsupervised contact with children and young people and is classed as regulated activity relating to children. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, promote the welfare of all pupils and follow all school safeguarding policies and procedures. Appointment is subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check, identity verification, qualification checks, employment history checks and suitable references.
