Health Care Assistant

Providing high‑quality, person‑centred care to individuals receiving treatment on an acute inpatient mental health ward, the role is supervised by registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. The post holder supports patients experiencing acute mental health difficulties, promotes recovery, dignity, safety and wellbeing at all times, and contributes to risk management and safeguarding processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care and support to patients experiencing acute mental health difficulties.
• Assist with personal care and daily living activities, encouraging patient independence.
• Observe and monitor patients’ mental and physical wellbeing, reporting concerns promptly.
• Support delivery of therapeutic and recovery‑focused activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean and therapeutic ward environment.
• Work collaboratively with registered nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver care plans and positive patient outcomes.
• Support risk management, safeguarding and patient safety procedures.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and carers.
• Promote dignity, respect, equality and person‑centred care at all times.
• Participate in mandatory training, supervision and professional development.
