Job Overview

CLCH Hertfordshire Adult Community Services – CLCH NHS Trust is recruiting an Occupational Therapy Lead to provide assessment and treatment for referred clients within West Hertfordshire bed‑based unit.

Main Duties

• Act as an active member of the clinical team, providing comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to residents of West Hertfordshire within the bed‑based unit.
• Work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promoting best practice and undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, including assessing and treating own caseload of patients/clients and maintaining professional documentation.
• Build up and maintain key relationships with referring services across CLCH, including acute and community teams, to facilitate appropriate referrals and to support understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapist and the multi‑professional team.
• Supervise Rehabilitation Assistants and Occupational Therapy students, with guidance from Senior Therapists.
• Support self‑ and service development through active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and by participating in any in‑service training, audit or research undertaken by the service.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Current AHP with UK HCPC registration.
• Evidence of active CPD portfolio.
• Relevant postgraduate training.

Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of current best practice in OT.
• Ability to work single‑handedly with individuals and groups.
• Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.
• Understanding of team dynamics.
• Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice, risk assessment and management.
• Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
• Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
• Health, safety and risk awareness.
• Ability to manage time/caseload effectively.
• Commitment to client‑centred, non‑discriminatory practice.

Key Attributes

• Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Experience

• Application of the OT Process.
• Experience of working as part of an MDT.
• Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.
• Relevant work experience in a variety of clinical placements.
• Experience of delegation to support staff.
• Previous experience of working in the NHS.
