Social Worker – Band 5 Development (Inpatient/Community)

We are looking for a strengths‑based social worker to support people with mental health conditions in the City of Oxford. The post is suitable for newly qualified professionals and offers a Band 5 development pathway.

Key Responsibilities

• Improve mental health outcomes for service users by providing a distinctive social and rights‑based perspective within the multi‑disciplinary team.
• Conduct statutory social care assessments under the Care Act and Section 117 of the Mental Health Act, delivering strengths‑based, rights‑focused assessments and timely package reviews.
• Use advanced relational skills to support individuals to make positive, self‑directed changes and work towards personally defined recovery.
• Provide advocacy support and collaborate with carers, especially during crisis situations.
• Safeguard adults by identifying abuse and neglect, working with individuals and other agencies to protect and safeguard them.
• Apply the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act where necessary to support people who cannot make decisions for themselves, balancing their rights with those of others.

Qualifications & Development

• Band 5 development post suitable for newly qualified social workers.
• Participation in the ASYE programme with a protected caseload for the first year of practice.
• Strong commitment to promoting a social perspective of mental health and rights‑based practice.
• Experience or willingness to work with complex needs and risk, and knowledge of safeguarding adults.
