Quality Control Technician (QCT) – Hinkley Point C

Build Quality. Ensure Safety. Support One of the UK’s Most Significant Infrastructure Projects.

Heidelberg Materials is looking for a Quality Control Technician (QCT) to join our team supporting operations at Hinkley Point C. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in maintaining the quality, safety, and performance of concrete and aggregate materials used on one of the UK’s largest construction projects.

The Role

As a Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for the routine inspection, sampling, and testing of concrete and aggregate materials in line with Heidelberg Materials standards and EDF requirements. You will help ensure products consistently meet strict quality standards while maintaining the highest levels of health, safety, and environmental compliance. Working closely with operational teams, contractors, and management, you’ll be a key contributor to delivering excellence across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control & Testing

  • Carry out sampling and testing of concrete and aggregate materials in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Accurately record and report test results.
  • Monitor material performance and elevate any concerns promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, technical instructions, and operating procedures.

Material Inspection & Site Compliance

  • Conduct visual inspections of incoming raw materials.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, defects, or quality concerns to management.
  • Support material handling activities and site inspections.
  • Ensure all activities meet EDF and Heidelberg Materials compliance requirements.

Health, Safety & Environmental Standards

  • Follow all EDF and Heidelberg Materials Health & Safety procedures and policies.
  • Actively promote a positive safety culture and report near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure all personnel operate safely and responsibly.
  • Maintain high environmental and housekeeping standards across the site.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Liaise effectively with EDF contractors, colleagues, and operational teams.
  • Build strong working relationships with third parties and contractors.
  • Support operational activities and undertake additional duties as required.

Essential

What We’re Looking For

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within industrial or construction environments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Level 1 Award Training.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Triple Bar Nuclear New Build Training.
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
  • NVQ qualification.
  • Experience in concrete, aggregates, construction materials testing, or quality assurance environments.
