Overview

  • Hours: 12.5 hours per week per position, school holidays only – 2:1 support
  • Area: Heaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne
  • Rate: £15.00 per hour

We are currently recruiting for 2 experienced personal assistants for a loving young boy with Autism, Global Development Delay, and a Learning Disability. Our client always requires full supervision as they have no awareness of danger. He currently resides with his mum and sister and they have a cat so you must be an animal lover. This role would suit individuals that have experience working with children with autism either in an educational setting or lived experience with relevant qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Support Reggie to access the local community, accompany and support him to engage in his chosen activities, and personal care including nappy changing.
  • Assist with dressing especially when out and prompt him to wear his coat.
  • Provide physical support to maintain his safety during activities and run at a fast pace if needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children with autism, global developmental delay or learning disability.
  • Experience with sensory-stimulating activities such as trampolining, soft play, swimming, park visits.
  • Good fitness level for supporting and possibly running with the child.
  • Full clean UK driving licence preferred; ability to navigate public transport beneficial.

Other Information

Reggie enjoys sensory stimulating activities including trampolining, soft play, swimming, and trips to local parks. He uses a specialist wheelchair when out in the community for his safety. Routine and continuity are very important; sudden changes can dysregulate him and may cause meltdowns.

He communicates via minimal language, gestures, and show and tell; coping strategies to manage meltdowns are essential.

Reggie has a limited diet and takes medication; mum will guide on diet and medication.
