About us

Queensway Hospital is a Mental Health service in association with the Ellern Mede Group. We provide individualised, person‑centred care for our patients. Our multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborates with patients, families, and professionals to enhance mental health and wellbeing. Care is delivered across the spacious Elizabeth Ward, with Elizabeth Lower downstairs and Elizabeth Upper upstairs. We offer a wide range of support, including:

  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Trauma‑informed therapy
  • RAID approach
  • Individual and group sessions
  • We provide individualised, person‑centred care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Safeguarding assessments of and meetings with carers and families
  • Liaison with community services to secure transfer of care as required
  • Act as link between inpatient services and receiving community teams
  • Discharge planning
  • Liaising with and assessing advocacy services
  • Oversee patient rights
  • Provide holistic social circumstances reports for tribunal
  • Supervision of junior staff
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983/2007 and other statutory legislation (Children’s Act 1989, Care Act 2014, child protection, protection of vulnerable adults, multi‑agency public protection arrangements)
  • Experience of working with young adults in a mental health setting (advantageous)
  • Understanding of community mental health services and functioning within an inpatient service while liaising with community teams

Qualifications

  • Degree in social work
  • Good knowledge of MHA 1983/2007
  • Knowledge of care management
  • Must be registered with the HCP

Experience

  • Ability to undertake needs‑led assessments, care planning, reviewing
  • Multi‑disciplinary team work, social services experience
  • Working within a mental health team
  • Working within care programme approach and risk assessment guidelines
  • Discharge procedures, awareness of risk assessments
