Overview
You will be part of the Local Highways South Team, providing assistance and support to Highway Officers and Senior Highway Officers in the Boston and South Holland areas of Lincolnshire. Your day‑to‑day work will include site visits and the chance to pull together packages of minor road maintenance works. The role is varied and challenging, and you will have opportunities to broaden your skills through training and development, including day release for college to obtain qualifications in civil engineering, which the County Council will fund. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a combination of office‑based, home‑based, and site‑based work.
Responsibilities
Key duties include:
- Highways maintenance
- Winter maintenance
- Highways safety inspections
- Highway Act enforcement
- Minor highways and environmental improvements
- Public interface on all highways services
Qualifications
You will ideally hold an ONC in an appropriate discipline, or A levels. Streetworks accreditation and Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) registration are desirable but not essential. You should be able to demonstrate a basic level of technical knowledge in relation to highways maintenance or a similar discipline.
Additional Requirements
We expect you to be flexible and responsive, with good interpersonal skills to work in a dynamic and diverse team, and to establish positive relationships with officers of the Council, councillors, and external agencies. Experience using IT systems such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn bespoke asset management systems, is required. You must also be able to travel across the county to meet the needs of the service. In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
