Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic medicines management administrative lead to join our busy Practice. Our practice requires a highly organised and motivated individual to provide comprehensive medication administration services to support the patients and Practice. Applicants should have excellent customer service, organisational and computer skills as well as have the ability to multitask and work under pressure at peak times. Applicants should have previous experience in pharmacy and or medicines management. Knowledge of medical terminology and experience of the EMIS Web computer system would be an advantage, although full training will be provided to the successful candidate. The ability to work well within our team and on your own initiative is essential.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Process repeat medication requests sent in by patients using the various protocols in place.
  • Ensure patient queries on medication are highlighted to the relevant clinician.
  • Work as part of the team providing support to the Practice to address areas within the current practice prescribing action plan.
  • Improve the quality of repeat medication records by housekeeping to align quantities, discontinue medication no longer needed and identify potential clinical issues.
  • Develop effective working relationships with relevant community pharmacists.
  • Help the practice achieve prescribing targets within the current prescribing Incentive scheme.
  • Co‑coordinate medication reviews and support Practice recall systems.
  • Liaise with nursing and residential care homes.
  • Develop, implement and co‑coordinate repeat dispensing.
  • Assist patients and chemists with queries and requests regarding repeat medication.
  • Regularly review prescriptions that have not been picked up and appropriately remove or destroy them.
  • Co‑coordinate efficient operation of practice repeat prescribing systems.
  • Address interface prescribing issues and promote use of the Significant Event Reporting System.
  • Develop good working relationships with the Wirral Medicines Management Team.
  • Attend ICB coordinated training events when made available.
  • Develop excellent skills in working with GP computer systems to generate reports and implement changes.
  • Develop written materials such as repeat prescribing protocols, patient information leaflets and practice information charts.
  • Plan and implement innovative approaches to reduce medicines waste.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of general education GCE/GCSE Mathematics GCE/GCSE English IT literate including experience in using Word and Excel at intermediate level.

Experience

  • Practical experience of working with others, experience of using own initiative, experience of working in a medicines management or pharmacy setting.
  • Experience of complex administration and record keeping in an office environment. Familiarity with a variety of windows‑based software and windows/network environment. Experience in using EMIS clinical software.
