About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Locum Social Worker to join our Children in Care team in Chelmsford. You will work with children and young people up to the age of 18 who are looked after by the local authority, supporting them to achieve stability, permanence, and positive outcomes while in care.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people living with foster carers or in residential placements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of children and young people in care, ensuring their welfare and care planning needs are met
• Visit children and young people regularly in their placements
• Develop and progress permanency plans, including reunification, Special Guardianship Orders (SGO), and adoption
• Undertake life‑story work, helping children understand their care journey
• Work closely with foster carers, residential providers, families, and partner agencies
• Prepare high‑quality assessments, reports, and care plans
• Support children and young people where reunification with their birth family is the agreed plan
