Salary: £26,832 – £28,146 per annum (pro‑rate for part‑time) (Pay award pending)

About The Role
Support a dedicated team of Trading Standards Officers in carrying out enforcement work on behalf of the Council, including checking imported goods for product safety requirements and assisting with a wide range of duties such as responding to complaints and enquiries concerning businesses, products and services. Undertake administrative work and practical tasks such as maintaining specialist equipment for officers. Keep detailed and accurate notes and records, log information in accordance with the legislative framework, and communicate with businesses, other agencies and consumers, providing compliance advice. One posting will also function as a duty officer dealing with referrals and calls, updating the services database for allocation to the relevant team.
Responsibilities
- Check imported goods to ensure compliance with product safety requirements
- Assist with responses to complaints and enquiries about businesses, products and services
- Carry out administrative and practical tasks, including maintaining specialist equipment
- Make detailed and accurate notes and records at all times
- Log information in line with the legislative framework surrounding the legal process
- Communicate with businesses, other agencies and consumers, providing compliance advice
- Handle referrals and calls received from various sources as a duty officer, updating the services database
Qualifications
- Experience managing your own workload and prioritising work to meet deadlines in a demanding, rapidly changing environment
- A proactive approach with flexibility to meet service needs, including working outside of normal office hours
- Experience communicating via telephone, letter, email and face‑to‑face with businesses, other agencies or departments in a professional manner
- A broad spectrum of skills and ability to use your own initiative as well as follow management instructions, enabling efficient completion of a wide range of tasks; experience of providing advice in an enforcement role is an advantage
- Enthusiastic to work in Trading Standards with an enquiring mind and an understanding of the work undertaken by Trading Standards
- Excellent computer skills to enable fast and efficient data input and accurate and detailed recording of information, as well as understanding social media and the ability to carry out open‑source research via the internet
- Experience working to set standards, protocols and procedures ensuring consistency and accuracy, and understanding the confidential nature of the work and adhering to GDPR
Additional Requirements
Full UK Driving Licence required for both roles.
