Investigative Support Assistant – Protective Services, Crime, Wakefield, Scale 4-5.

West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit an Investigative Support Assistant to join Protective Services, Crime, based in Wakefield. This recruitment will fill one immediate vacancy, with a succession plan in place should any further vacancies become available in the next six months.
In this role, you will be an integral part of an Investigation Team providing administrative support to the Investigative Support Officers. You will be responsible for the complex case‑building function related to the investigation of major crime, contributing to the successful prosecution of offenders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing high‑quality administrative support to investigative staff.
- Assisting with the preparation of case files and material for prosecution.
- Collaborating with partner agencies and using computerised applications.
- Managing and extracting information from databases and spreadsheet packages.
Required qualifications and skills:
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Good command of English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic working knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and relevant partner agencies.
- Ability to work flexibly, travel for business purposes and work across multiple sites within the Force area.
- Capacity to handle cases of an explicit or disturbing nature.
Training and progression:
- Within one year of appointment, successful completion of an in‑house file‑build and disclosure course and a portfolio is mandatory, leading to progression from Scale 4 Entry ISA to Scale 5 Advanced ISA.
- Additional relevant training required for the role will also be completed.
- Successful candidates will normally be appointed to the bottom scale point of the grade within the Career Progression Scheme, based on role entry requirements. An appointment may, subject to approval, be made to a higher scale point where qualifications, skills and experience are commensurate.
