Job Purpose

To use your knowledge of legal work in a specific Department and area of law to progress aspects of client matters independently, under the supervision of a legal adviser. You will be responsible for liaising with and updating enquirers, clients and third parties and for completing all administrative aspects of a matter, freeing legal advisers to focus on the legal aspects of matters.

You will not have matters in your own name but will be expected to charge for many of your activities on a file and will have significant time and financial targets. You will be expected to support the Department legal advisers in all offices, not just the local team.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist with residential and commercial property transactions, including pre-exchange, exchange, completion, post-completion, Land Registry and Stamp Duty requirements under appropriate supervision.
  • Manage client matters from initial enquiry through to completion, supporting the team with all aspects of case progression and client care.
  • Prepare and draft legal documentation, correspondence, contracts and forms, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely progression of matters.
  • Maintain accurate case records and documentation using the firm’s case management system, monitoring key dates, deadlines and compliance requirements.
  • Liaise professionally with clients and third parties, providing updates, coordinating transactions and progressing matters efficiently.
  • Support the financial management of matters through time recording, cost monitoring, billing, disbursements and file closure processes.
  • Contribute to departmental compliance, continuous improvement, business development, knowledge sharing and the training of junior colleagues while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professional conduct.

What you will need:

  • A strong academic track record with at least a 2:1 in a legal related field.
  • Previous experience in a legal role is not required as training will be provided, but may be helpful especially if in property.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • A high degree of accuracy, organisation, and efficiency.
  • The ability to work well as a member of a team.
